Perhaps realizing that no one in this country cares or listens to him anymore, our scum bag of a President took a trip to Israel this week looking for someone, anyone to justify his pathetic existence. He did get a pat on the back from his fervent admirer Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and later some good photo ops atop Masada and at the Shrine of the Book. But then PM Olmert is himself under investigation for fraud and has had dismal approval ratings since the 2006… so he and Bush have some things in common. But then, in his usual “Screw America First” attitude, Bush gave a speech before the Israeli Knesset and insinuated that anyone and everyone in America that does not agree with him must be Chamberlain-like Hitler appeasers. This was an unprecedented Political Attack on Americans while standing on Foreign Soil and continues to show how much of a slime ball this idiot has become. It also shows how little he knows about history which isn’t surprising since he can barely read or talk. It also shows how little he’s aware of what is going on in his own administration as Bush’s own Defense Secretary and Secretary of State have recommended talking to Iran.
The other thing that came out this week was in an interview Bush gave. It seems his ultimate sacrifice for the soldiers he has sent to their deaths in Iraq is… He gave up golf in 2003.
This country cannot afford another 4 years of the Bush disaster which is EXACTLY what we would get with John McSame McCain.

Bush Administration spokesperson General Petraeus and his sidekick Ryan <strike>Crocker</strike> CrockObull are headed back to Washington again today with those gorgeous graphs to <strike>fool Congress</strike> give Congress an update on the <strike>6 month</strike> no <strike>1 year</strike> no, ah hell, the never ending surge. They will, of course, say everything is going fantastic with the surge and they only need another <strike>Freidman Unit</strike> 6 months just to make sure.
That brings me back to the title of this post. What ever happened to the 18 benchmarks? You know, the ones our <strike>glorious</strike> pathetic leader Bush told us about in his State of the Union address on January 23, 2007 justifying his <strike>surge</strike> “New Way Forward” in Iraq.

America will hold the Iraqi government to the benchmarks it has announced.

Lest we forget, here are the benchmarks…
1. Perform constitutional review.
2. Enact de-Ba’athification reform.
3. Implement oil legislation.
4. Form semi-autonomous regions.
5. Hold provincial elections.
6. Address amnesty.
7. Disarm militias.
8. Establish support for Baghdad Security Plan.
9. Provide military support in Baghdad.
10. Empower Iraqi Security Forces.
11. Ensure impartial law enforcement.
12. Establish support for Baghdad Security Plan by Maliki government.
13. Reduce sectarian violence.
14. Establish neighborhood security in Baghdad.
15. Increase independent Iraqi Security Forces.
16. Ensure minority rights in Iraqi legislature.
17. Distribute Iraqi resources equitably.
18. Keep Iraqi Security Forces free from partisan interference.
Fifteen months later we are no closer to meeting these benchmarks than the day the “SURGE” started three Friedman Units ago. Well then, what was the purpose of the surge you ask? Bush/Cheney/McCain have changed the goal post so many times it is hard to remember. Which is exactly what they are hoping for.
The ORIGINAL <strike>excuse</strike> purpose of the surge was to provide the “breathing space” for political reconciliation to occur. Yet <strike>three Friedman Units</strike> 18 months later, political progress has been scant, and what progress has been made is not durable. The Iraqis have not made the difficult political compromises necessary for national reconciliation, and an indefinite U.S. presence in the region will not inspire them to do so. Despite the best efforts of our military men and women in creating a temporary lull in violence, substantial advancement toward a sustainable and independent Iraq has not been made.
The only success has been that slight but temporary decrease in violence in Iraq. But even that has less to do with the SURGE and more to do with the temporary cease fire called by Moktada al-Sadr and the Mahdi Army AND the briefcases full of money we give to the various militias each month so they don’t attack us.
This is progress? We are no better off now then we were in 2005. The real questions Petraeus needs to answer..
1. Have the results of the SURGE been worth the lives of the 1000 Americans who died during this time?
2. Have the results of the SURGE been worth the 120 Billion dollars it has cost?
3. Have the results of the SURGE been worth the crippling of our military infrastructure?
4. Is the Iraq government any closer to meeting the benchmarks NOW than 2 years ago?
THE ANSWER TO ALL 4 QUESTIONS IS NO
But do you really think Bush, Cheney, McCain and Petraeus give a damn?

Scenario: an account or synopsis of a possible course of action or events.
Over the last 7 years the Bush Administration has shown unremitting contempt and disdain for our laws, Congress, the Supreme Court, the Constitution and the American people.
So let me say right up front… Bush and Cheney WILL NOT leave office on January 20, 2009 unless and until they are satisfied that…

1. Iran has been dealt with to their satisfaction.

2. They are assured that we will have a <strike>long term</strike> forever presence in Iraq that another President will be “locked” into.
Rest assured that they have been planning their options for some time, such as, removing obstacles like Admiral William Fallon, head of the United States Central Command.

The resignation was announced by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates while Fallon was on his way to Iraq for discussions with US commanders there. It is only the latest in a series of incidents demonstrating that the military-intelligence apparatus is deeply divided over the evident desire by the White House to find a pretext for a military attack on Iran.

They (Bush/Cheney/McCain et al.) have also been taking every opportunity to blame Iran for everything that has gone wrong in Iraq.
And lastly… The pathetic Bush/Cheney legacy, ethics, reputation, and creditability has been in the crapper for so long the stench has made Americans sick. So they really don’t have anything to lose, as if they ever really cared what Americans think.
So I am going to predict right now, if John McCain wins the election on November 2, 2008, Bush and Cheney will leave office on January 20, 2009 happy campers knowing McCain will be the front man for Bush’s third term in office.
However, if McCain loses, you can count on the U.S. attacking Iran sometime before January 20th 2009.
